When Andres Andrade arrived to Brazil in 2013, the then 26-year-old never imagined that four years later he would be one of the country’s most successful businessmen.

Andrade, who was included on the 2017 Forbes Brasil’s “30 under 30” list, is a UF alumnus from Ecuador. He currently serves as the chief investment officer for Gazit Brasil, an international real estate company that operates, manages and develops shopping centers around the world.

Andrade graduated from the Warrington College of Business Administration in 2008 with a master of science in real estate.

After graduating, Andrade took a job with Gazit Brasil as an analyst in its Miami office. In 2013, Gazit Brasil offered Andrade a position as its business director.

“It definitely was tough in the beginning,” Andrade said. “You have to get adjusted to the way business is done locally.”

Since Andrade relocated to Brazil, the company has increased its worth from about $100 million to nearly $700 million.

Andrade said the best thing he took away from his time in UF’s MSRE program was the importance of networking. He said the program was keen on making sure students knew how to market themselves.

“I was able to buy all this good real estate because I can speak to people and make connections,” Andrade said.

He said he was not expecting his Forbes nomination but felt incredibly honored when he heard the news.

Jon Cannon, the executive director of development and alumni affairs for UF’s Bergstrom Real Estate Center, said in recent years, alumni have graduated more prepared for their future careers.

“We’re extremely proud to see recent graduates, especially, come out and have an immediate impact in their chosen profession,” he said.
